Get InvolvedGlobeGivers was founded by a group of local community members from Mfangano Island and dedicated international volunteers with a shared vision of sustainable development. The initiative was inspired by Gabriel Lennox, a passionate local, and Susan Hecklman, a volunteer from Germany. Their collaboration sparked a movement focused on community empowerment, environmental conservation, and long-term growth.
We launched our first clean water initiative by installing rainwater harvesting systems in three villages. This significantly improved water access and reduced waterborne diseases by 40%, particularly benefiting the Wakinga community.
The Wakinga Health Center was established to serve over 5,000 residents with essential medical care. This milestone was achieved through a successful online fundraising campaign led by Dan Xia, a volunteer from the USA.
Our school support program renovated six primary schools and awarded scholarships to 150 vulnerable children. Samuel Odoyo, Director of the Mfangano Education Fund, led this impactful effort to uplift youth education.
We introduced eco-friendly accommodations and cultural tour packages that promoted sustainable tourism. This initiative created jobs for 25 locals and helped preserve Mfangano Island's cultural identity.
Our permaculture demonstration farm trained over 500 farmers in organic farming tailored to the island's environment. This has empowered communities to practice environmentally friendly agriculture.
We were honored with the Sustainable Community Development Award from the United Nations, recognizing our integrated approach to community development and environmental conservation. This accolade highlights our ongoing commitment to creating lasting, positive change on Mfangano Island.
